Boogie at Nikolaj Kunsthal – Scent in Motion

Evren Tekinoktay’s new exhibition Boogie has just opened at Nikolaj Kunsthal, and I was invited to add another layer to her poetic and sensuous world: perfume.

For this exhibition, Evren asked me to set up a perfume diffusion in the grand Ovre Gallery, a vast, historical space that itself plays an active role in the staging of Boogie. To do so, I adapted one of the three perfumes I created for Tekinoktay Perfumes, the brand founded by Evren and her husband, artist André Babikian. The scent chosen was Fanny, one of their three eaux de parfum, reworked for diffusion so it could fill the gallery in a subtle, enveloping way.

Working in such a monumental setting was a challenge and a gift. The architecture of Nikolaj Kunsthal is not just a backdrop here, it becomes a collaborator, amplifying the glowing neon works, the hand-knotted rugs, and the intricate collages that make up Evren’s universe. Adding scent to this context creates a new layer of perception, shifting the visitor’s attention from the visual to the invisible, from looking to feeling.

Boogie is an exhibition that moves with intuition. It flows between disciplines - from visual art to design, and now perfume - weaving together stories that reflect Evren’s Danish-Turkish heritage and her singular sense of play. To me, the perfume diffusion is part of this same gesture: an invitation to wander through a multilayered universe where senses overlap and intuition takes the lead.

If you are in Copenhagen, step into Boogie. Let the colors, the lights, the textures, and yes - the scent -

guide you.
